Here at Crest-Vue, we guarantee the health of ALL of our dogs whether sold as a pet, show prospect, or finished Champion. We can be confident that all dogs we sell are happy, healthy dogs as they are raised in our house-underfoot 24 hours a day.
We are proud to say that we health test ALL of our dogs before they are ever used in our breeding program. We do DNA testing for Prcd-PRA as well as the new test for PLL (primary lens luxation) both of which are major health concerns in this breed. Here at Crest-Vue, we also have yearly eye exams (CERF) done on all dogs that are currently being used in our breeding program-by a board certified canine opthomologist. This eye exam checks for cataracts, dry eye, glaucoma, PRA and many other problems that may affect the vision of our dogs--which CAN be hereditary.
Chinese Cresteds, as well as several other toy breeds, can also be affected with slipping patellas (knees). All of our puppies are checked for this problem at their first vet check at about 8-9 weeks old. Our adult dogs are also checked again by our vets before we decide to use them for breeding. We will not use ANY dogs in our breeding program with bad or loose patellas! Our vet makes regular visits to our home to do routine dental cleanings and basic health exams. Vets references are gladly given to verify all of this information!!
Whether you decide to buy a dog from us or ANYONE else....PLEASE be sure the breeder is doing his/her part by doing routine health testing. One way to check is to ASK for "proof" of testing on the parents of the pup or dog you are thinking about adding as a new member of your family. No breeder should ever be insulted that you asked for proof of testing!! If they are, then simply walk away-and don't buy. Remember that this dog that you buy will be a member of YOUR family for 12-15 years--and they SHOULD be healthy. Why take chances?
Below is a link to the Chinese Crested Health Database. All breeders that are PROUD of their health testing and wish to share their results, good or bad, will post their results here. So this is a good place to start when looking for that new family member. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about us or any of our dogs.
